Weight Management

Welcome to Shawnee Metabolic Management Center.  We are happy to partner with you in your health management.  Our program offers an individualized approach to the management of conditions such as Type II Diabetes, Hypertension, Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome and Obesity.

OUR MISSION is to provide a premier, medically supervised, metabolic management plan tailored to each individual patient.

Our VISION and goal is that each patient receives comprehensive, individualized treatment.  The first step to better health starts by reviewing all aspects of your medical history including genetic, psychological, social, environmental and physical information.  This information allows us to choose the lab tests needed to clarify your medical situation.  Your individualized plan is then crafted..

We provide nutritional guidance, matched to your lifestyle, to ensure the best results.  We provide exercise counseling and behavioral modification to help you gain confidence and learn to live a healthier lifestyle.  Medications, if prescribed, are tailored to each patient’s needs to provide optimal benefit.

Our approach, documented in the medical literature, has been successful in helping patients return their metabolic function to normal.  Many patients are able to attain normal blood sugars, blood pressures, and cholesterol values without medication.

We are here to support you as you progress towards attaining maximal health/well being.

Our program begins with a phone call from you.  Once you schedule your first appointment, an evaluation packet is mailed to you.  This will contain items such as a demographics sheet, a health history form, a nutritional evaluation and an information packet.  You will complete the forms in the packet and bring them to your first evaluation.

Fasting laboratory tests will be required as a part of your evaluation.  At your first visit we will determine the laboratory tests indicated for you.  Laboratory tests may include: complete blood count, complete metabolic panel, c-reactive protein, thyroid function studies, complete cholesterol and lipid panel, insulin level, HgbA1c, C-Peptide, 24 hour urine and a 3 hour glucose tolerance test with insulin levels.  The laboratory will bill you directly for the tests performed.

Also during your initial evaluation and EKG (a tracing of the heart rhythms) will be done to detect any abnormality that may not have been identified before.

At the completion of these tests, and possibly others, are completed, you will have a complete physical examination.

Once all of the testing and the physical examination are complete, an individualized management plan will be devised for you that will include a meal plan, exercise recommendations, medication recommendations, as well as a schedule for follow-up evaluations.  Follow-up evaluations might begin as frequently as every week or two but are generally monthly.  You will be asked to keep very specific records of things like meals, blood sugars, blood pressures, etc. to be used in follow-up evaluations.
